THE THINKTANK: AJJ’S FALL WORKSHOP
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
AJJ (Anthropology of Japan in Japan) invites proposals for its 2026 fall workshop, to be held at Meiji Gakuin University’s Yokohama campus on the weekend of November 7-8, 2026.
We invite proposals for papers that would benefit from intensive discussion by fellow anthropologists. Participation will be competitive, and only the five best proposals will be accepted.
Those papers will subject to intensive 90-minute discussion sessions at the workshop by the five presenters and five senior academics selected for their relevant expertise. Paper will be circulated and read in advance.
Accommodation and meals will be provided free of charge to the successful applicants.
If you are an ambitious doctoral candidate or early-career scholar, actively engaged in fieldwork and writing up in Japan, fed up perhaps with the brief and superficial discussions at conferences, then this could be what you need. Why not throw your hat in the ring?
The deadline for proposals is 11:55pm JST on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
