ANTHROPOLOGY OF JAPAN IN JAPAN (AJJ)

FALL WORKSHOP 2002
Sophia University, Ichigaya Campus
Tokyo Japan, Nov. 2nd, 2002

Please check our homepage for the panel SCHEDULE, MAPS AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION on AJJ (Anthropology of Japan in Japan).

All are welcome this is full day (9am-5pm) of panel papers on a variety of topics related to cultural and social aspects of Japan. The Ichigaya site is centrally located in the middle of Tokyo.

REGISTRATION: You may pre-register by email through Todd Holden (h…@….ac.jp) or at the door Saturday morning. There will be a 2,000 yen charge for admission. Graduate Students are free.

PURPOSE: To provide a multi-lingual forum to share original research and work in progress on Japan in a small and intimate setting with those most familiar with our ethnographic context.

FORMAT: Each panel is made up of 4 or 5 thematically related papers and allows ample time for presentation and discussion. This fall’s panel titles are “Researching the Lives of Adolescents,” “Global Encounters,” “Marginal Groups,” “Media and Popular Culture,” and “Spaces and Places.” In addition, we have a forum for more junior scholars to present preliminary research findings.

PARTICIPATION: Attendance for our workshops includes anthropologists, sociologists and anyone else interested in Japanese social and cultural practice. There is always a good balance of scholars based in Japan and those based abroad doing research here, and plenty of chances to share research interests with others over coffee, lunch or dinner.

LANGUAGE: English and Japanese

We look forward to seeing you there!
